Tarot Reading 12/12/04
Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, 23:55

I did a reading today at Tarot.com and it eerily rang true in many respects. It will be interesting to see if it all pans out. My question is not really that important, but it did have something to do with my love life and how my current situation applies to the future.

Love & Me: Queen of Swords

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
This is a good time to assert your individuality. Even a partner must step aside as you move forward in your own life.

The card in the Love & Me position touches on an aspect of how you perceive yourself with regard to possible intimacy in your life.

When the Queen of Swords comes up in this position, it is a time to become more autonomous. This queen has learned through challenging experience that she should be her own best friend. She doesn't need to be rescued, "helped" or patronized. As such, it's time to set boundaries as you move your emotional and psychic centers back to yourself.

In the old tradition, the Queen of Swords was stigmatized as unwanted, a woman who had outlived her usefulness to a man. Nowadays wise and independent people with maturity are better appreciated. Today we celebrate her as a self-defined individual and understand her as a person who owns herself. She fosters no dependencies because she craves none. In this way she is freer to move in the world unencumbered by the entangling expectations of others. When the time arrives, it may be more beneficial to become less available to a new partner's whims. Strike out on your own. Win or lose on your own merits.

Situation: Knight of Cups

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
The warrior returns as an ambassador of peace. The journey has transformed the traveler.

The card that lands in the Situation position refers to social or circumstantial factors which could be affecting your life at this time.

When the Knight of Cups (in some decks, a Prince) is in this position, someone who was lost from your life may be returning. This person may have completed some kind of personal quest that separated you some time ago. The traveler carries a cup of wisdom, initiation or renewed love to present to you.

Great clarity has been achieved through the traveler's adventures, which can transform your coming love relationship if you are ready. The benefits of this journey, a formidable sacrifice for the one taking it, will now be offered to you if you were true and faithful during the long absence. Be prepared to welcome the weary traveler and stay open to the message that is being delivered.

Challenges: Five of Wands

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
Raise the consciousness of a potential partner. Cooperation instead of competition will bring you into alignment with the greater good.

The card that lands in the Challenges position refers to ways that you can turn obstacles into stepping stones.

The Five of Wands in this position challenges you to help raise the awareness of the one you may soon be involved with, forsaking competition and instead cooperatively questioning the overall dynamics of the situation or possible relationship. This card represents the point at which consciousness moves from a self-centered place to the desire to join forces for a greater good.

As collective consciousness rises above bickering and schisms, you may target the real problem. If you take charge, you may be able to count on the support of your future partner and others who have not yet defined the common good.

Background: Seven of Swords

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
You have proven your talents. You now have the choice between collecting your accolades or getting back in the game.

The card in the Background position points to influences from your personal history, your roots and background.

The Seven of Swords in this position suggests that you have proven in the past that you have what it takes to overcome all competition. Because you've done it before, you are full of confidence. You have shown yourself to be ahead of the others; you may even be considered a past master. In this circumstance it is not necessary to indulge in further heroics.

It may even be appropriate to step back and let someone who is new to the game prove him or herself. Only if you are concerned that the outcome could affect those you love or your own long-term interests might you feel tempted to make a move. Otherwise, simply enjoy your freedom in this circumstance. It's up to you whether to respond or simply rest on your laurels.

Recent Past: Page of Cups

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
The time of trusting surrender and blissful learning is passing.

The card in the Recent Past position refers to events that are just departing, recently influential but now diminishing in power.

The Page of Cups (in some decks, a Princess) in this position has just emerged from a blissful period of innocence and naivete. Perhaps you were rudely awakened or just gradually accumulated more perception of the vicissitudes of life.

In either case, you cannot continue to respond like the completely open protege who trusts unconditionally and suspects nothing. That stage is over. Now you must accept a more mature level of wisdom and responsibility. This card's placement represents the passing of a student phase in your life.

Higher Power: Ten of Pentacles

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
Through you, gifts are carried forward from the past. Prove yourself worthy of this legacy.

The card in the Higher Power position reflects the broader perspective and influence of your conscience, Guardian Angel, inner wisdom.

When the Ten of Coins comes up in this position, it indicates that you took this incarnation to be a link in a chain of souls that will embody achievement on a scale that could impact future generations. Such people provide the yeast that raises everyone's quality of life.

You must see to it that you remain worthy of this good fortune. Ask yourself how you can best use this unique position you are in. Look to your larger goals now because you have the connections, the funding and the clout to bring them into manifestation.

Near Future: Five of Swords

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
You may feel compelled to manipulate a forthcoming relationship situation. Honestly work to overcome that continuing temptation.

The card in the Near Future position indicates which way the wind is blowing with regard to your situation. If you follow the Advice card, however, you can improve on or neutralize tendencies.

With the Five of Swords in this position, it appears that you may be tempted to spin events, or perceptions of events, in your favor. It may even be easy to do and bear no major consequences. But resist the temptation to manipulate or manage a relationship from behind the scenes. When love-related circumstances do not proceed as you wish, do not immediately act on the impulse to interfere in order to make things better. Instead, reflect on where that impulse comes from.

Remember, even when confrontation or boundary setting is called for, it may not be in your best interests to be combative. Maintain your equanimity as best you can, even if a situation veers towards imbalance or dominance by your possible partner. Use this as an opportunity to cleanse yourself of self-righteousness and let go controlling impulses.

Issues: Three of Wands

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
Don't expect to always perform brilliantly; take time to rest and nourish yourself.

The card in the Issues position points to self-undermining tendencies, areas where you could be in denial or could get stuck -- unless you examine yourself and make some corrections.

The Three of Wands in this position reveals an unyielding drive towards perfection. It also reveals a tendency not to rest or restore yourself sufficiently, or to acknowledge the merit of what you have already accomplished in your pursuit of a relationship. Such an approach is, however, counterproductive.

It is out of balance to only focus on what remains to be done, without affirming what is already accomplished. Relax --don't wear yourself down with perfectionism so that your energy is used up before your work is done.

The Loved One: Justice

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
Your love interest is highly invested in being fair. Since this is a big concept, you should try to understand what it means to him or her.

The card in the Loved One position refers to how you might perceive someone you are now or soon to be involved with. Alternatively, it may point to an archetypal energy source within yourself, which supports your ability to experience deeper love.

When Justice appears in this position, it may be a great time to open lines of communication, flush out misunderstandings and verify your assumptions. Remember that your friend is listening when you talk, even when you are not saying anything! Look at ways you can balance your roles in the relationship by letting go of any lingering prejudices you may be holding. Only then will the two of you be able to interact without pretense.

Once you have both told your truths, you can accommodate each other and find effective ways to appreciate each other. Compassionate truth is the best medicine in this case.

Love Advice: Ten of Cups

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
A spiritual bounty is due for you and the special one you want to be with. This is a moment of recognition and gratitude for the divine blessings that invisibly support love in all its forms.

The card in the Love Advice position suggests a course of action which will harmonize what you want with what is currently possible.

The Ten of Cups in this position suggests that one you desire to be closest to at this moment holds special significance in your life. This is someone with whom you could share a sense of wonder at the sacred dynamic behind the mundane world of day to day activity.

Once in a while the heavens open and give you a glimpse of the Great Mystery through another person. When this happens, the instruction and insight are meant for both of you. Celebrate your communion in some ritual way, giving thanks that we have the opportunity to live and love.

Long-term Potential: Six of Cups

POSITIONAL (MAIN) MEANING
The natural progression of events may bring about a sense of empowerment in a forthcoming relationship. Your will is not the controlling factor.

The card in the Long-term Potential position points to unknowns still taking shape. It is the "wild card" yet to be played.

With the Six of Cups in this position, if you follow up on the established trend, there may be potential to outgrow previous relationship limitations. Nature itself will tend to push you into a new mode of operation. You don't have to figure it all out nor will yourself into it. The natural flow of events and relationships will eventually release you from feelings of helplessness and emotional vulnerability.

Let yourself build back up to a place of strength, self-assertiveness, and a knowing of your own mind. You may soon be in a relationship where you can make a turnaround and be supported for it. Just follow the trend in good faith.
